Configure OpenVPN using your VPN credentials on Mac

In this article you can find out how to configure Tunnelblick on your Mac using the VPN username and password you received from us. Tunnelblick is a VPN client i.e. a program that allows you to connect to a VPN server.

To configure OpenVPN on your Mac, follow the steps below:

1. Get your VPN Username and Password

To get your InvizBox VPN username and password, follow the steps in the article here.

2. Take Note of your Operating System Version

To see your operating system version, click the apple symbol at the left of the menu bar at the top of your Mac. Your operating system version will be displayed underneath the heading.

3. Download and Install Tunnelblick

Open your favourite web browser (e.g. Safari).

Go to tunnelblick.net and click on 'Downloads' in the navigation bar.

Look for the latest 'Stable' release for your operating system and click on the link to download it. If you are running an older version of your operating system, you may find it on the 'Deprecated Downloads page'.

Once the download has finished, find the downloaded item in the 'Downloads' folder, and double-click it.

A window titled 'Tunnelblick' should open. Double click the icon under the words 'Double-click to begin'.

Depending on your system security settings, you may be prompted to confirm your decision to install Tunnelblick. Click on 'Open' to continue with the installation.

When prompted for Administrator credentials, enter the name and password associated with the Mac account and click 'OK'.

Once the install has finished, you will see a new window that says 'Welcome to Tunnelblick'. In this window, click on the 'I have configuration files' button.

A final window will pop up that says 'Add a configuration'. In this window, click on 'OK'.

Tunnelblick has now been installed and is ready for the VPN configurations to be added.

4. Install the VPN Configurations

At the bottom of this article, click on the 'vpn_configuration.tblk.zip' link to download the VPN configurations. If you are on Safari, you will be prompted to allow downloads from our support site.

In your Downloads folder, double-click the vpn_configuration.tblk.zip that you just downloaded to open the VPN configurations in Tunnelblick.

You will be prompted to install the VPN configurations. Click the checkbox to 'Apply to All' and click the button that says 'Only Me'.

You will be asked to enter an administrator name and password for your Mac again. Enter them, and click on 'OK' to continue.

5. Connect to InvizBox VPN

You will now see the Tunnelblick icon in the menu bar at the top of your Mac. Click on it and select the VPN location you wish to connect to. The VPN server options are prefixed with country codes of their locations (e.g. ie-invizbox is located in Ireland).

You will be prompted for credentials again. Enter your InvizBox VPN username and password that you retrieved in step 1. If you wish to save your credentials, tick the checkbox labelled 'Save in Keychain'. Then click the button that says 'OK'. You will need to enter these login credentials for each location you wish to connect to.

Tunnelblick will connect your Mac to InvizBox VPN. Hover over the Tunnelblick icon in your menu bar to see the VPN connection status.
