In this article you can find out how to configure OpenVPN on your Windows device using the VPN username and password you received from us. OpenVPN is a VPN client i.e. a program that allows you to connect to a VPN server.
1. Get your VPN Username and Password
To get your InvizBox VPN username and password, follow the steps in the article here.
2. Download and Install OpenVPN
Open your favourite web browser (e.g. Microsoft Edge).
Go to openvpn.net/community-downloads/ and download the .exe file for your version of Windows.
Locate this .exe file in your Downloads folder and double click it to install OpenVPN.
Make sure to allow the TAP drivers to install when you receive the pop-up later on during the installation.
3. Install the InvizBox VPN Configurations
At the bottom of this article, click on the 'vpn_configuration.zip' link to download the InvizBox VPN configurations.
Open the location you saved the vpn_configuration.zip file. Then right click on the file and click 'Extract all' to extract the VPN configurations.
You will now have a folder with multiple .ovpn files that have connection details for each VPN server. Each configuration file is named with an abbreviation for the country its server is located in (e.g. ie-invizbox is located in Ireland).
Select the .ovpn files for the locations you wish to connect to (select up to 50 files). OpenVPN cannot handle more than 50 files. Then copy the selected files to your OpenVPN config folder:
Windows 10: | C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config |
Windows 8 (32 bit systems): | C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config |
Windows 8 (64 bit systems): | C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenVPN\config |
4. Run OpenVPN
Find the OpenVPN shortcut on your desktop or in the start menu. Right click it and then click 'Run as administrator' to run OpenVPN as Administrator.
Right click the OpenVPN status icon in the bottom right of your taskbar to open the OpenVPN menu. Hover over the VPN server you wish to connect to in the OpenVPN menu and click 'connect' to connect to it.
When prompted, enter the VPN username and password that you retrieved in step 1, and click "OK".
You should now be connected.
