InvizBox Go - Firmware 4.1.12

Important: This firmware is only for the InvizBox Go which is pictured below:

For this release, we have completely revisited and upgraded our technology stack to the latest (stable) available tools and applications. The most visible change is the migration to our own Administration Interface (similar to our InvizBox 2 products) and the ability to use our apps to configure your InvizBox Go. This will allow us to keep delivering fixes, features and improvements in the long run.

Changelog 09/09/2021:

• Upgraded OpenWRT (Base OS and standard tools) from 18.06 to 21.02 - this is a significant upgrade of most software elements (e,g. Linux kernel upgraded to version 5.4.143)
  
• Merged the development of all our firmwares into a centralised project (hence the jump in version which had to be higher than all previously released firmwares)
• Added support for IKEv2/IPsec
• Migrated the Administration Interface to be the same one as our InvizBox 2 products (away from LUCI from OpenWRT)
• Changed the "Privacy Mode" concept into the ability to run up to 3 Wi-Fi Hotpots concurrently (1 VPN by default, 1 Tor and 1 Clear). This effectively allows the user to run multiple "Privacy Modes" at the same time.
• The Introduction of the new Administration Interface adds multiple layers of configurability and ease of use including elements like Profiles where you can select the features you want (and then associate a Profile to each of your networks)
• Implemented a new section and UX to connect the InvizBox Go to nearby Wi-Fi hotspots.
• Implemented a completely new way to handle Captive Portals (as there are now multiple networks running concurrently).
• Upgraded Tor to version 0.4.5.10
  
• Revisited the Onboarding pages and simplified the Credentials entering area
• Added a feature where the Administration Interface can handle multiple InvizBox devices by letting the user know they have connected to a different InvizBox (InvizBox 2 or InvizBox Go)
• Added a feature where the Administration Interface (or app) can use sessions and "Remember Me" across multiple devices at the same time (previously connecting to a new device would wipe all data related to the previous one)
• Upgraded our apps to run on the latest Android and iOS OS versions
• Fixed a lot a small issues around our Administration Interface (browser and apps)
• Redesigned the Network/Internet Card-Page in System to be more accurate and useful
• Fixed a set of bugs around changing factory password
• Updated wording and fixed typos in multiple parts of the Administration Interface
• Modified the way different VPN providers are handled in the firmware
• Added support for more USB key filesystems
• Built an F-Droid repo where we publish our app (Install the InvizBox 2 Administration App using F-Droid)
• Moved our updating to Tor V3

Upgrade Instructions:

• Plug in your InvizBox Go, make sure it is connected and functional. Your device will check for updates over the first hour of it being plugged in, at that stage a banner will be available in the Administration Interface for you to upgrade (you may need to refresh the page in your browser to see it). Note: you can speed that up by going to the System/Update Log page in Expert Mode and clicking the "Perform update" button (refresh the page after a couple of minutes).
  
• Click the button on the banner to upgrade to the new 4.0.13 firmware.
  
• Make sure you don't unplug your InvizBox Go until after you have logged back in the new Administration Interface:
  • this may take up to 10 minutes as the new firmware is bigger - be patient
  • you may need to get back on the Wi-Fi network if you got disconnected during the upgrade
  • If after ten minutes, nothing happens, you can try to access the Administration Page in a new page of your browser (http://inviz.box or http://10.153.146.1)
• Once connected to the new Administration Interface, you can also download, install and use our Administration Interface app on your phone/tablet (as an alternative to the browser interface which is still available)

Important: As part of this upgrade, we have completely changed the Administration Interface. We are no longer using the root user password to log in to the Administration Interface and decided to set the initial password to match your Wi-Fi password (this will be visible to you in the login page). Don't hesitate to change it after the first login (in Settings - click the user icon on PC or find Settings in the menu drop-down on your phone)

Notes:

• The reason we are not adding the firmware to this page is that there are multiple versions of it based on which VPN provider you are using. Your InvizBox Go will update to the correct firmware automatically.
